Experience Summary:
Jeffrey Brown joined Hospitality Real Estate Counselors (HREC) in 2011 and currently serves as a Senior Vice President focused on Valuation, Consulting and Brokerage Services. Over a 25 year career, Jeffrey has served as a commercial review appraiser focusing on distressed and bank owned assets and has also completed numerous individual and portfolio appraisals including hospitality, golf course, marina, multi-family residential, religious institution, industrial, retail and office properties. In addition, Jeffrey spent 11 years underwriting, acquiring and entitling land for extended stay and select-service hotel development.
Jeffrey began his career in real estate in 1986 as a consultant in the Hospitality and Real Estate practice of the Laventhol & Horwath accounting firm, where he performed market feasibility studies and appraisals on a variety of property types including hotel, golf course, restaurant, marina, apartment, office, and retail. Selected for an overseas posting to New Zealand and Australia in 1988, Jeffrey rose over the next three years to Hospitality practice leader in the Melbourne, Australia office of Laventhol & Horwath. After his return to the United States in 1992, Jeffrey was an Assistant Vice President in the Fort Lauderdale office of Landauer Associates, a national appraisal and consulting company, before joining Atlantic Hospitality Advisors as a Senior Director in 1996. In 1997, Jeffrey joined the Extended Stay America hotel company as a Real Estate Manager, with full responsibility for the underwriting, negotiation, acquisition and entitlement of sites for the construction of new limited service hotels. Jeffrey continues in this same capacity through 2008 with the successor company of OTO Development, LLC developing the Select Service brands of Hilton, Marriott and Hyatt Hotels. From 2009, Jeffrey was a Commercial Review Appraiser with Valuation Management, LLC and a Commercial Appraiser with GRHCO focusing on the review and performance of appraisals of the real estate collateral associated with non-performing loans and foreclosed properties.
Education:
Jeffrey graduated from Clark University in 1983 with dual Bachelor degrees in Political Science and History and from the Cornell University School of Hotel Administration in 1986 with a Master of Professional Studies degree. He earned the prestigious MAI designation from the Appraisal Institute in 1997, he is a Certified General Real Property Appraiser in Georgia and a Licensed Real Estate Salesperson.
